INDIGENOUS LITERACY FOUNDATION

Fundraiser ’Love & Unity’ Art Print

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote communities across Australia.

They are community-led, and provide culturally relevant books, including early resources and programs to support to children and families.

Melina created a campaign to educate her audience about the important work that ILF do. She designed a poster that was for sale, to create awareness and to raise funds. Melina also donated her store’s monthly sale profits directly to ILF. The donations supported the publishing of books written by communities, for communities, in languages of their choice.

The Vision

The idea was to create meaningful design that was contemporary and simplified in its style. With Melina’s target market in mind, it needed to appeal to her community and attract a wider audience as well. The line drawing encompassed two hands coming together, holding a love heart, symbolising ‘Love & Unity’.

“Reading and storytelling have been a big part of my life growing up, and to give the gift of reading with a social impact is so rewarding. The best part is, the communities write their own stories, create their own illustrations and have their books published.”
